Zen-Cart 1.3.8 Japanese Pack Install

Note, DO NOT use Cpanel as means to upload this pack.  Us an ftp file transfer program such as FileZilla or 3D-FTP,  If you use Cpanel, you will mess up the encoding on some of the files and your checkout will not work.

Also, DO NOT use Cpanel as a means to edit the files, use a real text editor such as phpDesigner or notepad..., make sure to save any files as UTF-8.

Here is the CKD-Zen-Cart Japanese Pack 1.0.  This pack is built for Zen-Cart 1.3.8a and will be updated for new Zen-Carts to come, Updates from here on out will be swift and easy to do.  We had produced an updated language pack that was beta for 1.3.7 but that pack was based a good portion on the 1.3.02 pack from the people at zen-cart.jp.  We have since changed most features of the pack, that we feel will be easier to grow and update, thus we are starting the pack at 1.0.  The current pack from Zen-Cart.jp is still based on the code from 1.3.02, many updates and improvements in the core code have taken place since then, and we feel that Japan or people who use Japanese, should not be left behind.  With that we announce the release of this Pack.   We at Crystal Koi Design currently use this pack for our customers, but I decided to take my spare time and give the code for everyone here on my site.  If you like this or anything else, then please feel free to buy me a cup of coffee to fuel me, as I do this site in my spare time.  If you use Zen-Cart and have not donated to the core team yet, please do this 1st.  If you need work on your site, then you can [contact me] and I will see what I can do for you.

This 1st tutorial will assume that you are starting a new cart based on zen-cart 1.3.8a and up and you have transitioned that cart to UTF-8 encoding.  For more on the UTF-8 encoding click [here].  I will try to address as many issues as I can for people who are running zen-carts and currently want to update that cart.  There are many more things that go into this, and people who know enough, this tutorial will help.  Also if you currently have a cart and built it before, and maybe have bugs, this might be a time to start fresh and build a solid foundation.  Starting from scratch is sometimes the best fix.

Download the attachment (pick from zip, or rar, if you don't know, then pick zip, ) and use the links below to move to different sections of the install and please post on here or the zen-cart forum if you find any bugs our errors and I will address them as soon as I can.

Language file only

I am planning to install Japanese language pack. If I don't want to change any zen cart core files, can I install only the language files? (includes/languages/japanese/ and japanese.php) Thanks

@ToeySorry for the late

@Toey
Sorry for the late reply here.

You can install only the language files, but you might run into problems.  The changes aren't really that hard to do.

english/japanese display

First off, thanks for all your time and effort on this project! I've read through a lot of the comments and instructions, and one thing I am not clear on is how the core files will manage my products. Specifically, if I add ProductA to my cart with its price and quantity available, and I want it displayed with English description or Japanese description depending on the clients preference, Then if that product is sold, are both English and Japanese displays updated to reflect the new quantity? I guess what I am asking is whether products need to be added and updated twice, once for english and once for Japanese. Thanks for your help. No one on my staff reads or writes Japanese, but our client wants to market its products to Japanese buyers. Makes it a bit difficult :)

Nevermind!

Please disregard last comment. I have done much more research and now have successfully installed a multilanguage zencart!

Here is fine.  I will take a look and see what I can come up with.

When I go through and check it. I can manually check out by doing this. Add main_page=checkout_payment to the url instead of main_page=checkout_shipping.
I wonder if there is something wrong with your file set. Did you use the same file set on each install?
If you want to send me your email through my contact form, I will help you at more.

solved?

I am having the same problem. Did this get resolved? Shaun, I tried manually adding main_page=checkout_payment to the url instead of main_page=checkout_shipping and I can see the checkout page but I can't goto the next page (process). I get the blank page then too. I am new to this and I am taking it slowly. I must have missed something regarding shipping and payment modules... Still checking... Here is what I have so far in my test store. http://ohmycow.com/zencart If there is a solution please let me know.

Just did a test of the pack.  No problems.  There will be an update soon, but that has nothing to do with the checkout.
