UTF-8 Zen-Cart

This has been taken from my old blog, as it is still relivent to the current zen-cart project.

I have since taken it and moved it to pdf formate.

Hope it still helps some people.

Note, I don't really recommend Zen-Cart as of now (9.15.2010). I see that they have put out some updates, but I think they are more of security and issues that should have been updated a while ago. We at Alethia now currently have a Ubercart/Drupal Japanese package that we offer. Such sites as www.skinevo.com , www.saitamapack.co.jp are using this and more to come.

If you are interested in that, you can contact us at www.alethia-inc.com . You can still use the Zen-Cart pack if you like, but I don't know if I will support it anymore, maybe when 2.0 comes out. I love the Zen-Cart team. Really, they changed my life. I would do anything for them, no joke, Zen-Team, if you are reading this and need any help at all, we at Alethia would offer what we can. Nothing but love for them, but I just feel Ubercart is currently a better solution. It has issues out of the box, but we have a solution for them at Alethia now and add the power of Drupal to that, well it's just great to work with!

Russian in ZenCart

Hello there.
I was looking into the .pdf and the problem is that I have this cart installed by my hosting company so I have no DB access per say.

It seems that written in .php files Russian text is gibberished and if I change it does not show, only ???
Is this is DB correction or something else? I've checked /language/russian.php and "LC_TIME" is set to "ru.utf8" bur "define" below were all in "windows-1251". Yes I did try to make it all the same in both ways - negative.
I'd appreciate any input.
Andy

You should still have the

You should still have the ability to get to your database.

If you can't then you should move on to a new hosting company.

Make sure you check the

Make sure you check the charset too, should be utf8.

a thousand thanks

I've found many sites indicating how to change the coding for the shop pages and in the database, but few address the mess caused by the admin editor still running on the other code. Your pointing out that there is another language.php in admin/includes was my salvation.

Layout problems

I have installed Zen Cart 1.3.8a and added UTF-8 Zen-Cart module almost a year and half ago. The cart was functioning fine and haven't had any problem with the Japanese pages until this month when my host server in Texas upgraded their server.

After the server upgrade, in Chrome, the overall width of every page has been reduced by almost 15% and the font has almost doubled, with font of the product description varying from product to products. In addition the Logo keep moving over the banner as I zoom in and out.
In MS Explorer, the font is stable but the whole page is skewed to the left side, the logo and the banner are not properly aligned.

I thought that the problem lies with the css file of my template and after checking it out against the default template, I could find any plausible problem with this particular file. I also thought that a permission issues with the css file, but I have been told by the server's technical staff that they could find any permission issues with the file in question.

The English pages display well and don't seem to have any problem.

I am at loss as what could have happen and should be most grateful for your kind suggestions.
Best regards
Al
