A Pause In My Life To Thank Open Source
I would like to make a blog post to thank open source and tell a little about how it has changed ever aspect of my life. Anyone who knows me, knows how much I love open source, not just the software but the whole concept. I wish everything was open source. I wish the world was at that level of intellect where it could embrace the common wealth of knowledge that man could share to solve sooo many issues. Anyways, I know that this is not posiable because there will always be that person/machine who can’t understand the advantage of sharing. Not that I am going to get into that now. That is another day and a couple of beers.
I would like to just make a person statement to the world. My open source message to the world as to what it has done for me. Open source has given me the ability to change my life in so many ways. From stating 3 companies, 2 leading into my current. To giving me the ability to start a family. To gaining like minded friends, gaining clients that become have/will be long time close friends. I love how open source has crept into every part of my life. I have a dream that I am sure I will never see, but how great would it be if things like life healing medicine, clean energy and more were all open sourced. If money was not the issue and big business with no hearts were not behind these type of industries, but the common good of all people, how many lives could be changed and health issues might be cured because of this. Anyway, I know that is a pipe dream, but it’s a nice one and it will happen in many ways I hope but I know not all.
I will end with in say this, open source seriously gave me the ability to have two amazing children that mean more than anything in my life. It all started with a little e-commerce open source project called Zen-Cart and has branched into a lot of Drupal and who knows where next. Building a company with great people completely off open source development and living day to day on my Ubuntu laptop, running complex websites on open source Apache servers. I am sure even if you don’t know it, today, your life has been touched by open source. If you use little (little?) things like Facebook all the way to any kind of computer on any kind of operating system, open source has touched your life. I would like just to stop and say thanks and ask everyone who reads this, to take a moment and educate themselves on what open source is. Google it!
